The Hyundai A-League is a soccer game contested by ten teams: nine located across Australia and one from New Zealand. The league runs from early October into March and consists of each team playing each other team, three times, with the top six teams going through to the A-League final series.
There are currently nine clubs from Australia and one New Zealand playing in the A-League. Only four of these clubs existed before the A-League was formed. The A-league began at the beginning of 2005 into 2006, the structure has changed since then, and there was initially a Pre-Season Cup competition but it was removed in 2009 to make the competition more competitive.

A team can receive three points for winning or one point for a draw; the points are added together to see who’s top of the league with six teams going through to the final. The winning team will then be crowned the A-League Premiers and will be entered into the AFC Champions League. Brisbane Roar are the current A-League champions.
The Melbourne Victory have been top of the league twice both in 2007 and 2009. Archie Thompson is a very successful member of Melbourne Victory he has scored the most goals (53) during all the leagues.
