The Sprint Cup Series is the most popular race; it consists of 36 races over 10 months. The first 26 points events of the 36 race season determine the drivers eligible for the Chase. The driver who tops the Chase standings at the end of the final 10 races will be crowned the Cup Series champion. Jimmie Johnson has won the last five consecutive Sprint Cup Series drivers’ championships.

NASCAR was founded in 1947-48 by Bill France and he sanctioned the first NASCAR race on Daytona’s beach course on February 15th 1948. Due to popular demand the race moved to a bigger venue in 1959, setting up on Daytona’s international speedway. There was more change in the 1970s when Bill France Senior made his son, Bill France Junior, NASCAR leader. In the 90s the NASCAR craze erupted, it began  opening more race tracks, such as the  New Hampshire Motor Speedway and introduced a new series the Craftsman Truck Series. NASCAR continues today as being one of the most popular American motor sports and is prominent in sports betting.
