Formula One is the highest class of single seater auto racing sanctioned by the FIA. Held annually, the F1 season consists of a series of Grand Prix races held in most nations participating.

Formula One originated from the original European Grand Prix Motor Racing and was created after World War II to create the most advanced world championship race. The first ever race in 1950 was won by Italian man Giuseppe Farina who raced against Argentinean Jual Manuel. Manuel then went on to win five World Championships.

Formula One is considered the fastest circuit in the world with cars racing at speeds of 360km/h. The speed of Formula One has has caused several controversial accidents. In 1994 the San Marino Grand Prix saw two deaths, Ayrton Senna died when he crashed into a wall and Roland Ratzenberger died the next day when the front wing of his car broke off.

Formula One is considered to have a group of top four constructors, between 1984 to 2008 all Championship winners were from McLaren, Williams, Renault and Ferrari.

There have been 32  drivers who have won the Formula One World Championship. The most successful drivers is undoubtedly Michael Schumacher, who’s had a total of seven Championships with five of them consecutive from 2000 to 2004. Overall the United Kingdom are the most successful nation with 214 Grand Prix wins from 19 drivers .
