Luke-Donald, US MastersWith April only round the corner, before we know it the US Masters will be upon us. Both Rory McIlroy and Luke Donald will be battling out for more than just the honour of winning the Masters. Whoever wins will get the prestige of being crowned the golf world number one.

It was Luke Donald’s recently completed victory in the US PGA Transitions Championship, on Sunday, that had him reclaim his world number one ranking from Rory McIlroy. He’ll go on to try and win his  first major Golf win at the 2012 US Masters. Despite this, McIlroy is still favourite to win the tournament, with odds of $6.4, with Betfair, compared to Donald’s odds of $21.00, with Centrebet.

Donald and McIlroy will be joined by the likes of Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Lee Westwood and Adam Scott in taking on the Augusta course. Woods is the second favourite to win the competition with odds of $10, offered by Betfair, closely followed by Mickelson who has odds of $12.50.

Tiger Woods will still be feeling the strain of his strained Achilles tendon and will be hoping to complete his preparation with a successful performance at the PGA Arnold Palmer Invitational. If he succeeds with a good performance this week, his odds will be slashed for a US Masters victory.

Luke Donald is likely to practice with McIlroy this week in Florida, and Donald admits that the topic of world rankings is likely to come up.
